We warmly invite you for our next VentureClass on Thursday evening April 28. For this VentureClass we invited the speaker Reinier de Jonge, CEO of experty. Founded in 2008 with only just over 200 euros starting capital, experty is now one of the leading European internet retailers with over 300 different niche e-commerce sites in 7 countries focusing on 4 particular product groups: healthcare, sports, home & outdoor.

Offline to online / online to offline
A growing trend at the moment is the opening of offline stores (bricks) by online companies (clicks) and vice versa, a trend that sees many traditional retailers topple. Reinier will go back in time and point out the similarities between one of the first chain stores (Selfridges), Amazon and experty. After Reinier’s introduction there will be a discussion on how we should move forward with the online/offline trend in mind, and why more and more online retailers are opening brick-and-mortar stores. Reinier will also answer questions about his success as an entrepreneur.

About experty and Reinier de Jonge
Experty is one of the leading European online specialist stores, fully owning 300+ e-commerce shops. Everything is built in-house, including the warehouse management system, online advertising bid system and the front-end of the e-commerce stores, and the content management system. Experty consider themselves an IT company that happens to be in online commerce.

In 2008 experty was established in a small town in the northern part of the Netherlands. Within 7 years -and without any external capital- they managed to become a fast growing profitable company, increasing their yearly revenue with over 60% annually. Experty continues to grow, and now provides jobs for over 80 people.

Reinier de Jonge started with experty 8 years ago. He currently manages the company as CEO and is actively involved in its daily IT operations. Before founding experty Reinier worked as an intern at Arriva in London. Prior to that he studied at different universities in Germany, United Kingdom and the United States. Reinier holds a master’s degree in International Business from the University of Groningen. He likes to travel, preferably to destinations where he can dive.
