For this special VentureClass we are shining the spotlight on women entrepreneurs, with several pitches, and keynotes by University of Groningen Supervisory Board member Heleen van Balen and entrepreneur Monique Schoondorp.

Heleen van Balen Heleen van Balen studied Law at the University of Groningen. She specializes in Strategic Legal Management, Governance, Risk Management and Compliance (GRC), and higher education management and development. Heleen van Balen is the proprietor of Commutatio Group BV and a lecturer in Leadership and Governance at the Hanze UAS Groningen. Heleen van Balen has extensive experience in governance and management. She is the chair of the Giraffa Network and vice chair of the Groningen Commercial Club. She is also a member of the board of Het Behouden Huys.
Monique Schoondorp has a PhD in Chemistry from University of Groningen, and previously held a lectorate New Business and Energy at the Hanze UAS. Currently she is managing partner at Omega Green, the successor of Algaecom. Omega Green B.V. builds and installs her own unique algae grow system specially designed for large scale production.
TheNextWomen provides female founders and investors acces to knowledge, capital & network.
With TheNextWomen membership and TheNextWomen Crowd Fund we connect with each other and the ecosystem to enlarge the influence and impact of successful women. In this way we help to build financially healthy and strong companies. We have two different programs that help us achieve this goal.
Northern Knowledge is the clear face for performance of cooperation of knowledge institutes and businesses. They are front office in facilitating and profiling cooperation of the actors in valorisation and entrepreneurship. Northern Knowledge coordinates University of Groningen, UMCG, and Hanze University for Applied Sciences business development, public-private partnerships, and IP.
